Android TV & launcher

Choose what the Home button opens, check the current setting, or return to the regular TV launcher.

Checking the default Home app...Android controls this setting.

Nothing is locked. Android requires you to approve the Home role. On modern Google TV devices, selecting the radio button is the complete approval—there may be no separate “Always” question.

Startup and background permissions

Optional setup is offered on at most two app launches, then stops asking. You can always return here. These settings do not lock the remote or override firmware restrictions.

Install App Update 0.1.36 to enable these controls.

Use Make Home above and select RTS Acuity Station.
Under Display over other apps, allow RTS Acuity Station. This can permit a reboot launch even without the Home role. No floating window is drawn.
Under Battery / background settings, choose All apps if needed, find RTS Acuity Station and allow background activity or select Don't optimize / Unrestricted if available.
Keep Open after reboot enabled, then restart the streaming device to test. Turning the TV on from standby is not a reboot.

The app keeps the display awake while open. Android may still block boot launch; force-stopping the app can prevent startup until you open it again. Missing settings are a firmware limitation. Returning to another app does not trigger an automatic takeover.

Dedicated eye-chart TV

Make RTS Acuity Station the Home app so it opens after startup and whenever Home is pressed.

Select Make Home above.
Approve RTS Acuity Station. A selected radio button is enough; many TVs do not show an “Always” button.
Press the remote's Home button to test it before restarting the TV.

Return to the regular TV Home

Use this whenever you want the usual app list and TV interface back.

Select Make Home to reopen Android's Home-app settings.
Choose Android TV Home, Google TV Home, or your TV maker's launcher.
Press Home. RTS Acuity Station stays installed and can be opened from Apps.

If Google TV keeps Home

Some Google TV firmware keeps routing Home to its own launcher even after saving RTS Acuity Station as the Home app.

Select Make Home, choose Google TV once, then choose RTS Acuity Station again.
Press Home to test the selection.
If Google TV still opens, there is no hidden Setup Wizard screen to finish. The device firmware is overriding the third-party Home choice.

For a shared-use TV, leave the manufacturer's launcher as Home and open RTS Acuity Station from Apps. On an administrator-managed or kiosk-locked TV, ask the installer or device administrator to change the Home policy.
